|Season one, Episode 1|
|Air date||August 19th, 2014|
"DIsorientation" is the pilot episode of the Carmilla series. It first aired on August 19th, 2014.
Laura Hollis is three weeks into her first semester at Silas University, and things have gotten off to a weird start. Goat sacrifices and a self-aware library catalog aren’t exactly what Laura was expecting for Freshman Orientation. Oh, and her roommate, Betty, mysteriously disappears after a party. A cryptic (and oddly moist) note leads Laura to believe that this isn’t just a case of one too many Jäegerbombs.
Synopsis EditThree weeks into her semester at Silas University, Laura Hollis begins her vlog style journalism project. Her roommate, Betty, enters and interrupts her. Unfazed, Laura introduces her "roommate extraordinaire and best friend of the past several weeks." During this introduction, Betty, who is very excited about a 62% she earned on her most recent test, proposes they go out to celebrate. Laura is reluctant at first, and expresses a desire to work on her project. Betty states that the quad mixer is out and that "Danny the TA" may be there, causing Laura to agree to go to the party.
The following morning, Laura wakes up and realizes she left her camera on the entire night. Laura decides to wake up Betty, but discovers she isn't present. A few moments later, she finds a notecard on the floor that informs her that Betty no longer attends Silas.
- Betty mentions 'Danny the TA' to Laura. This is Danny Lawrence, who Laura had a crush on at the time.
- This episode marks the first appearance of Laura Hollis and Betty Spielsdorf.
- When Laura goes to wake Betty, she calls her 'the Jäger-bombinatrix' This most likely is a reference to the kind of drinks Betty had the previous night. A Jägerbomb is a bomb shot, made by dropping a shot of Jägermeister, a kind of German liqueur, into a glass of either beer or red bull.
Laura: Silas University, in picturesque Styria, where nothing, not even the homecoming goat sacrifice, disturbs the pursuit of knowledge.
